Garage Door Fly Screens

If you are searching for a fly screen for your garage door, you probably want one simple thing: to leave the big door open without the garage filling up with insects. That is exactly what we install. Elite Garage Screens fits Lifestyle retractable garage screen doors that cover the whole garage opening with insect mesh, so the space stays airy and pest-free while the door is up. When you need the doorway, the screen retracts out of the way. We are a family-operated business with more than 20 years in the building industry, now specialising in garage screens, and we fit across the North Island from Kaitaia to Wellington. Below we explain how a garage fly screen differs from the one on your kitchen window, which mesh to choose, and what fitting involves. You can see finished examples in the gallery.

Not just a big window screen

A window fly screen covers a small opening and mostly stays put. A garage opening is a different job: it is the width of the door, and you still need to drive a car through it. So a garage fly screen has to cover the full opening when it is down and get completely out of the way when it is not. Fixing a window-style screen across it would mean taking it down every time you needed the car.

That is why we fit a spring-loaded retractable screen rather than a fixed panel. It fills the Daylight Opening, measured from trim to trim across and from trim to floor down, and the frame is cut and assembled on site to suit your garage. It works with your existing garage door, so you keep using the door exactly as you do now.

Choosing the mesh

There are two mesh options, and both are pet-proof. White mesh is the privacy choice: people outside see less of what is going on in the garage. Super Black mesh is the see-through choice, so you keep your view out to the driveway or garden.

Either way, the frame comes in White, Sandstone or Dark Brown. If privacy is the main reason you are looking, our page on retractable garage door screens goes further into the White mesh option.

Fitting an insect screen to your garage

The screen fits most sectional garage doors with standard horizontal tracks. Low-headroom tracks may need an extra kit, and the screen takes up about 30 mm of head-room. A typical install takes a few hours. Locks are available for the frame and for the retractable personal-access door, and every screen comes with a 5-year product warranty and a 12-month installation warranty.

Common questions

Will a garage fly screen keep insects out with the door open?

Yes, that is the point of it. With the garage door up and the screen down, air comes through the mesh and the garage stays pest-free.

Can I still see out through the fly screen?

Choose Super Black mesh if you want to see out; it is the see-through option. White mesh is the privacy option.

Does the screen cover the whole garage opening?

Yes. It is made to fill the Daylight Opening, measured trim to trim across and trim to floor down, with the frame cut on site to suit.

Will my dog get through the mesh?

Our White and Super Black meshes are both pet-proof.
